HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO @nekoumyu!!!!!!! I adore you so so so much and wanted to write this silly little gift for you!!! Based on the BakuDeku fluffy chick au that you and @insanemarshmallow have come up with!!! I hope you enjoy your gift!
The room was still dark, the hour far too early for anyone
to be awake. The air in the room was cool, the night was peaceful, so what had
woken him up?
A soft, very sad sounding chirp answered his unspoken
question.
Katsuki glowered in the darkness of his dorm room. His eyes
focused in on the small shoebox sitting in the center of his desk. How had he
been the one to get stuck looking after him? There were plenty of other people
in the dorm that could have easily taken him in for the duration of this, but
no, of course it had to be Katsuki that was stuck with him.
Useless Deku.
Another chirp, soft but clipped came from the box. Katsuki
shut his eyes in silent frustration knowing that Deku was probably crying. What
had he done to deserve this? Sitting up, he shivered when his bare feet touched
the cold floor, but walked over to the desk regardless. Peering down into the
box, Katsuki gave a heavy sigh.
“Deku.”
The chirping suddenly erupted, the nerd clearly panicking
from waking up Katsuki. There was scrapping against the bottom of the box,
meaning that Deku was probably rushing around the small space and freaking out.
What had the animal kid said about elevated heart-rates? Right … it could
cause a heart attack.
“Deku, shut up,” Katsuki grumbled, but attempted to keep his
voice low to try and calm the idiot down. The room abruptly fell into silence.
Deku froze in the center of the box, his wide eyes looking up in him, wet with
tears and panic. Katsuki slowly raised his hand, inch by inch bringing it
closer to the small fluff ball in the box. “I’m not gonna hurt you, so relax
already.”
Katsuki slowly slid his hand under the fuzzy little ball
that was his childhood friend. Making sure to not hold him too tightly, Katsuki
moved back over to his bed and laid down, plopping the ball onto his chest.
“You would be the idiot to get himself hit with such a
troublesome quirk,” Katsuki grumbled, glaring at the small defenseless green
baby chick. Deku had been out on one of his internships and had been returned
to the dorms like this of all things.
After everyone had stopped cooing over him, it had somehow been decided that
Katsuki would be the one to look after him.
Katsuki had a sneaking suspicion it had to deal with the
fact that Deku only seemed to stop freaking out when Katsuki was holding him.
“The quirk isn’t going to last much longer. You just have to
get over it and deal,” Katsuki huffed, but still seeing the miserable look on
the green chick’s face, Katsuki gave in. Sliding a hand up his stomach, he
softly scratched a finger against the top of Deku’s fluffy head and side. The
motion was surprisingly gentle, but Katsuki watched with tired eyes as the
fluffball slowly relaxed and nuzzled into the touch.
They stayed like that for some time. The silence of the night
brining a calm to the room while Katsuki attempted to get Deku’s heartrate back
under control. The occasional cheep would slip from the soft form, but only
when Katsuki pulled his hand away. It seemed like if he was going to keep Deku
quiet, he would have to put up with petting him. Katsuki felt his eyes
threatening to slide shut again, sleep dragging him back to it.
“Just gonna move you, Deku,” Katsuki exhaustedly muttered,
lightly picking up Deku and placing him on the pillow next to his head. “Don’t
want to end up crushing you.” He yawned, closing his eyes and pulling his
comforter up to his shoulders, pointedly ignoring the wide-eyed look coming
from the other. He would just fall asleep and when he woke up this whole
nightmare would be over.
It was not over.
Katsuki could feel a headache coming on when he was woken up
by high pitched cheeping instead of his alarm. Groaning, Katsuki shifted and
attempted to cover his ears, but the insistent little shit just hopped up onto
his shoulders to get closer to him.
“DEKU!” Katsuki roared, sitting up and letting Deku tumble
down to the mass of blankets. The small green chick looked up at him, chirping happily
as if this hadn’t been the most annoying wake up call Katsuki had ever had.
Glaring at his clock, he noticed that he needed to get ready. His alarm hadn’t
gone off. Getting out of bed, Katsuki picked up Deku and put him back onto his
desk. Digging around in one of the small containers he had stacked on his book
shelf, he put down a thin bowl and poured water into it.
“Fucking hydrate yourself. We’ll figure out food on the way
to class,” Katsuki then left the bird be, changing out of his sleeping clothes and
into his uniform before brushing his teeth. Over all he hadn’t taken more then
fifteen minutes to get ready, but he would be cutting it close. Grabbing his
bag, he was about to head out before that annoying chirping began again. Right.
. . Deku.
“C’mon then,” Katsuki plucked him up off the desk and headed
for class, the baby chick placed on his shoulder. No way in hell was he
carrying Deku the entire way there in his hand, he’d probably accidently blow
him up. The nerd seemed content to just sit on his shoulder anyway, so it wasn’t
that big of a deal. When Katsuki made his way into the classroom, he quickly
looked around for a target.
“Oi, Roundface!” He called, walking over to her desk. “Take
this from me,” he held out Deku.
“Oh, um … I guess? But won’t it be difficult for him to
see the board all the way back here. You sit by the front, it would make more
sense for him to stay with you,” Uraraka responded, shooting a look to Deku
that Katsuki couldn’t read. Clicking his tongue, he stormed over to his desk
and sat down, lightly dropping Deku to the surface to just sit in the corner.
Classes had gone by as per usual, but Katsuki found himself becoming
distracted more and more as the day progressed. He found himself just looking
down at Deku, observing his small movements and on the occasional break would
lightly pet the soft feathers like he had done last night. He would instantly
stop once he realized what he was doing, but it continued to happen throughout
the day. By the end of morning classes, Katsuki had come to a horrifying
realization.
Deku was cute.
Katsuki wanted to smash his face against a wall just thinking it, but it was true. As long as
Deku looked like this stupid baby bird, Katsuki was just going to associate him
with a helpless animal. That was going to have some consequences, he could just
tell.
“Hey, Bakugou. We’re heading to the cafeteria now,”
Kirishima said, standing next to Katsuki’s desk and looking down at Deku. “Wonder
what Midoriya can eat like that?”
“Rice,” Katsuki grunted. He would not admit out loud that he had looked it up during one of their
short breaks. He stood, reaching out a hand to let Deku hop onto it before
placing him onto his shoulder again.
“You know, you’re being awfully nice to Midoriya today,”
Kirishima smirked, chuckling while they walked.
“Keep talking about it and I’ll throw him out the window,”
Katsuki said seriously. It was one thing for Katsuki to realize he was being
nice, it was a completely different story for others to point it out to him.
“Alright, alright you win,” Kirishima held up his hands in
surrender, clearly knowing that Katsuki wasn’t joking. They had gotten their
food, Kirishima and Kaminari chatting away happily leaving Katsuki to himself
for the moment. He’d gotten his own lunch but made sure to get a small bowl of
rice and a small salad. The nerd couldn’t just
eat rice. They sat, Katsuki slowly bringing Deku down to the table. Katsuki
moved some of his food around his plate to make a big enough empty space so he could
put a small pile of the rice down and a few of the lettuce leaves. Katsuki
watched Deku start picking at it, much faster than was probably good for him.
“You choke, you’re dying. No way in hell I’m gonna save your
dumbass from a grain of rice,” Katsuki warned him. Deku looked up at him, eyes
bright and wide and a stupidly happy expression. Shit.
“You’re letting him eat off your plate? Never knew you had
such a soft spot for animals, man,” Kaminari joked, apparently not
understanding the warning hand gestures Kirishima was trying to signal him
with.
“Shut up, besides it isn’t that weird. We used to do it all
the time,” Katsuki defended, only to realized he had messed up.
“Really?” Kaminari’s grin set Katsuki’s teeth on edge. The
electric dumbass was mocking him.
“Shut up and gag,” Katsuki growled, starting to eat so it
would give him an excuse to not talk to them anymore. He looked back down at
Deku, still just slowly eating away without a care in the world. Katsuki
frowned, faint memories of summers splitting ice cream, winters sharing sweets,
and the thrill of letting the other try some new food from when they were
younger flickered to his conscious mind. Katsuki gripped his chopsticks harder
trying not to think about it, desperately attempting not to think about how
everything had just gone so wrong between
them.
Katsuki hadn’t realized he had begun scratching Deku again
until another chirp reached his ears.
He stopped, finishing his meal in silence and not looking at
anybody, including Deku. When was this stupid quirk going to wear off? Katsuki
didn’t know how much more of this he could take. Katsuki quickly looked to Deku
seeing that he had stopped eating and was simply just laying on the table with
his eyes closed.
This was going to be the end of Katsuki, he just knew it.
Afternoon classes passed very similarly to how morning
classes had. Katsuki would try and pay attention, he would be distracted, and
then end up scratching Deku. Rinse and repeat. Katsuki had never experienced
such relief when the final bell of classes rang out.
He had gotten himself and Deku back to his dorm without much
of a fuss. Closing his door shut, he dropped his bag and once again abandoned
Deku to wait on his desk. Katsuki figured he would grab a quick shower before doing
his assignments then make something to eat. The tasks were simple enough, and
quick trip to the main kitchen left Katsuki with spicy curry and Deku another small
mountain of cooked rice. Looking at the nerd bird with a bored expression,
Katsuki rolled his eyes seeing bits of rice stuck to Deku’s face.
“Really? You can’t even eat properly?” he grumbled, but
there was no heat in his words. After cleaning up and making his way back up to
his room he looked down at Deku again. He was looking a bit disheveled from all
the moving around Katsuki had made him do. Katsuki looked into his bathroom
then back to Deku. He glared in thought, Deku looking up at him with sudden
panic. He couldn’t just dunk the idiot in the sink with water in it, the types
of feathers Deku had wouldn’t be able to dry from all of that water and he’d
most likely end up sick from it. So … how was Katsuki supposed to-
An idea struck him. He placed Deku in his now familiar spot
on his shoulder and began to dig through his bathroom cabinet. Off to the side
sat an empty spray bottle, the perfect thing to lightly clean off Deku, and as
much as Katsuki would deny it, make the nerd feel a bit better.
Katsuki placed Deku in the sink, small spray bottle in his
hand now filled with warm water, and a hand towel at the ready.
“Deku, quit looking at me like that,” Katsuki growled. Izuku’s
large eyes looked up at him with curiosity. Katsuki sprayed him before he could
think about that look any further. Deku chirped, ruffling himself but otherwise
remained still. Katsuki gave a few more sprays, letting Deku shake off the dirt
and let the water shift between his soft feathers. When the bottle was empty,
Katsuki wrapped Deku up in the hand towel and began drying him, already walking
back out and over to his bed. It was late, or at least what Katsuki would
consider late. The only thing he wanted to do was just go to sleep and hope that
this stupid situation would be over with soon.
He let Deku hop out of his hand and onto the pillow before
shutting off the lights and curling up to sleep. He had expected Deku to just
stay where he had been, but he surprised Katsuki when he snuggled up right next
to Katsuki’s face, the soft feathers brushing against his cheek.
“Just go to sleep, Deku.”

Katsuki inhaled slowly, his mind bringing him out of sleep
and focusing on the soft morning light peeking through his window. Even though he
didn’t have classes, his body was still used to being awake at this time.
Rolling over, Katsuki inhaled sharply at the sight before him.
Deku was still sleeping, eyes closed with his entire face
relaxed and peaceful in slumber. The morning light almost seemed angelic from
behind Deku’s body. Katsuki couldn’t look away, his heart pounding. Katsuki
watched his own hand reach out, almost as if it had a mind of its own, and run
his fingers lightly through Deku’s curls. His hair was soft, a similar texture
to what had once been feathers. His fingers had moved from his hair to lightly
trace the line of his jaw before Katsuki fully realized what he was doing.
“Kacchan,” Deku murmured, slowly waking up from sleep.
Katsuki did the only thing his suddenly panicked and embarrassed state could
think of; he kicked Deku off the bed and onto the floor. “Ow,” Izuku groaned,
now fully awake. He sat up, getting a good look at himself and smiling.
“I’m back to normal!” He cheered, standing and looking at
Katsuki with so much joy and excitement that Katsuki wanted to hurl.
“Great, good for you, Deku. Now, get out of my room,”
Katsuki ordered, glad that his voice still came out with a bit of insistence.
“Oh, um … right. Well, thank you, Kacchan, for taking
care of me. I really owe you a lot for this, so … thanks,” Deku gave him a disarming smile.
Katsuki did everything he could to keep the glare on his face from slipping
into an embarrassed flush. Deku left, finally leaving Katsuki alone. He buried his
face in his pillows, biting his lip painfully, face flaring in a blush as he
quietly screamed.
